God had made Heaven and the Earth and all the angels. Angels are incorporeal creatures who praise God, act as messengers between God and man, and serve as guardians of nations and individuals. There are also chief angels who are called Archangels. The word “archangel” is a transliteration of the Greek archangelos. The term combines “archon,” which means “chief,” and “angelos,” which translates to “messenger” or “angel.”

Michael is the first of the seven archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael (who are mentioned in the Bible) and Suryal, Sadakyal, Saratyal and Ananyal (who are referred to in the liturgical books by the Church tradition).

Michael means “who resembles God?” or “who is like God?”. Also, mentioned in (Joshua 5:14) “Commander of the army of the Lord.” He was referred to as “Michael, one of the chief princes” (Daniel 10:13) when he came to help Archangel Gabriel oppose the devil. Daniel described Archangel Michael as “the great prince who stands watch” over His people (Daniel 12:1).

Archangel Michael will also lead the army of the Lord in defeating the devil and his wicked angels, casting them out of heaven. This is described in the book of Revelation: “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer”(Revelation 12:7-8).

St. Michael is known for the following:
A. The herald of Christ’s resurrection:
Michael was charged by God with the war against the devil, so what joy is there for Michael, who was charged by God with the war against the devil and was destroyed and bound by the blood of the risen Christ from the tomb.

B. The supporter of martyrs:
He is the one who supports the martyrs as they endure torture until martyrdom.

C. Archangel Michael and the Church:
He guards the Church of Christ, so a church in his name is always built in the highest fortresses of monasteries and on the outskirts of cities.

On the 12th day of every Coptic month the church celebrates the comemoration of Michael the Archangel Michael as on the 12th of the Coptic month of Hator.
May his intercession be with us, and may our Lord always have the glory. Amen
